2011 Highlight:
3D Visualizations Used as Water Resources Teaching Tool

A research team created three visualizations, including virtual tours and interactive maps. With support from NASA, NSF, NOAA, and Idaho State University, the team created a fourth visualization consisting of a video entitled “The Boise River: From Snow to Stream to You.” This six‐minute video is crafted to educate 4th‐6th graders about the Boise watershed generally, the source of their water, and the many uses of that water in the Treasure Valley. Remote sensing data, including LiDAR, GIS data, and Google Earth, photography, scientific narrations and visual tools engage viewers. These engaging learning tools foster greater understanding of geotechnology and scientific methods used in environmental science.
